Got questions?
Does it involve sleep training?
No. Sleep training is mostly used to wean off certain unhelpful sleep associations. However, many sleep issues that we come across actually are simply due to overtiredness, irregular naps and eating times, or a routine that just doesn’t fit the child’s age and biology. And those are things that you can easily change without any “sleep training” at all! You simply need the right resources. That’s why we created the Dreamy Day Routine Guidebook – to give you simple and effective guidelines that will help you improve your child’s sleep without any sleep training required.
Can I still co-sleep?
The AAP recommends that you room-share with your baby on separate sleep surfaces until your baby is at least 6 months of age, and till 12 months if possible. However, other studies have shown that room-sharing after 6 months of age may lead to poorer sleep quality for baby. We recommend room-sharing until 6 months of age, and then re-evaluating the situation regularly between 6-12 months.
Our experience with over 200 families has shown that the presence of parents can start to disrupt baby’s sleep past 6 months of age, which is why we often recommend putting the baby to sleep in their own bed or room. That being said, where your child sleeps is ultimately your decision, and the Dreamy Day Routine Guidebook will give you the tools you need to help your child sleep the best they can, wherever they sleep!
*Whether you decide to bed-share, room-share or put your baby in his own room, please carefully follow the AAP sleep safety regulations at all times.
Can I wear my baby to sleep?
Babies from 0-4 months may often sleep best when being carried. However, after 5 months of age, the movement and light sleep environment while wearing your baby to sleep may cause a catnapping habit. This can result in less restorative sleep, overtiredness and increased night wakings, which is why we encourage parents to let their little one do the longest nap of the day at home in their bed, instead of the carrier.
However, as mamas ourselves, we also completely understand the importance of staying flexible and being able to get out and about, especially if you have multiple children! We’ve created the Dreamy Day Routine Guidebook to help you structure your days for maximum flexibility, as well as to achieve the best sleep possible for your little one. For example, depending on your child’s age, they may have a short morning and late afternoon nap. These naps are ideal for doing “on-the-go” and for wearing baby to sleep.
What if I need more individual support?
If you feel that you need more individualised support to improve your child’s sleep, we recommend 1:1 coaching with one of our certified sleep coaches. I’ve tried to get my child on a schedule without success. Can this help?
Yes, we’ve used our Dreamy Day Routines to help hundreds of families that are in your shoes! The amazing thing about our routines is that they are more like a rhythm – you can either implement them exactly as described in our sample day routine, or you can change them up to suit your family’s needs, just keeping the age-appropriate awake times in mind, to prevent overtiredness and encourage good night sleep. Plus, our Dreamy Day Routines do not just include sample routines without any other support! This guidebook is full of easy-to-follow tips for each age on how to make the routines and rhythms actually work well – for example, how to create successful naptime and bedtime rituals, navigate nap transitions, create a sleep environment that encourages your child to sleep well, and so much more.
We have a lot of pre-determined appointments. Can we still use these routines?
We know as parents that some things in day to day life we just can’t get around – it’s not possible to spend all day every day at home just doing naps! That’s why we have created the Dreamy Day Routine Guidebook to give you the maximum amount of flexibility possible, so that you can still get out and about, and to know how to adjust your little one’s day rhythm when needed. However, babies and children do generally thrive on some amount of predictability, so having an irregular sleep schedule every day or frequently missing naps will often negatively impact sleep health in general, and may make it really difficult for any sleep issues to improve.
Will the day routines solve my child’s sleep problems?
If you don’t see a positive change within 3 weeks of consistently implementing your new routine, or things deteriorate and remain difficult, most likely there is another underlying factor (e.g. a sleep association) which is preventing the day routine from working its magic. In that case, we’d love to chat with you personally on a Free Consult so that we can find a good solution for you and your little one.
